The 49ers had a very successful season and were inches away from reaching the super bowl this year. The 49ers had an incredibly talented team this year and possibly for the next few years. One of those team members with so much talent is rookie defensive end Aldon Smith. Mr. Smith was arrested Saturday morning by the Miami police department for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Mr. Smith was only 22 years ancient and has a long career ahead of him as a defensive end.

 

According to the reports being released, Aldon Smith, 22, was formally booked into jail at exactly 9:32 in the morning but was later released on a $1,000 bond that was posted. There have not been many facts concerning the circumstances of the arrest or what probable cause the police had to initiate the enforcement stop.

 

The 49er franchise released a statement that they were aware of the arrest and they made a statement: “We take these issues very seriously, but will reserve further comment at this time, as this is an ongoing legal matter. The 49ers will continue to gather the facts and monitor the developments closely.”

 

The arrest of Aldon smith for a DUI in Miami Beach occurred less than a week after he finished his rookie season which included 14 sacks in the regular season (the second most by a rookie in the entire NFL history). Mr. Smith was the number 7 overall draft pick last year and Mr. Smith even added 2 sacks in San Francisco’s 2 playoff games. Aldon Smith was a two time NFL defensive player of the month and is one of the few candidates to be named the AP defensive rookie of the year, an award scheduled to be announced Friday.
